“The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7b
When the prophet Samuel went to anoint one of Jesse’s sons as king, he thought he had found the right one when he saw Eliab. Eliab looked strong and confident, and Samuel was sure this must be the man. But God stopped him and reminded him that He does not see as humans see. People are easily impressed by what can be seen, but God pays attention to what cannot be seen. He looks at the heart.
This truth brings us comfort and peace. God is not moved by outward beauty, reputation, or position. He sees the quiet acts of kindness that no one else notices. He understands the pain that never finds words. He values the sincerity that may never be praised. He knows the thoughts and motives that shape every action.
When people misunderstand you, God understands. When your faithfulness goes unnoticed, God sees it. When you feel invisible, He is still watching over you. You are never hidden from His loving gaze.
This truth should also guide how we treat others. Instead of judging by appearance or status, we are called to look with compassion, patience, and love. Many hearts around us are hurting, even when smiles hide the pain. God invites us to look deeper, to see others as He sees them, and to love them as He loves us.
God treasures a heart that is humble, sincere, and willing to follow His will. Today, open your heart before Him. Ask Him to renew it, to cleanse it, and to fill it with His presence. May your desire be to please the One who knows you best and loves you most.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You see my heart. You know my intentions and my struggles. Help me to live with a heart that pleases You. Teach me to see others through Your eyes and to extend kindness, patience, and grace. Make my heart more like Yours. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Good morning to you all. Have a blessed Saturday.
