Nyakunu, Zimbabwe – Paul Tawona, Vice Lay Leader for Dora North Circuit of The United Methodist Church, has answered the sacred call to ministry. This milestone was celebrated in a joyous farewell service at Nyakunu UMC, marking the culmination of a journey marked by faith, dedication, and affirmation from the church community.
The path to ministry began when the Dora North Circuit Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee submitted Tawona’s name to the Charge Conference held on July 21, 2024. The Charge Conference unanimously approved his candidacy, leading to interviews with the District Committee on Ordained Ministry.
Following a successful interview, his name was forwarded to the Mutare District Conference, where it received final approval. Tawona subsequently completed a crash training program to prepare him for his ministry appointment, which takes effect on January 1, 2025.
In celebration of his achievements and calling, the farewell service brought together church members, leaders, and well-wishers. Rev. Enetso Muzerengwa described the event as “a testament to God’s power to use dedicated individuals for His purpose.” He added, “Paul’s commitment has been unwavering, and this day is a celebration of his faithfulness.”
The highlight of the service was a powerful sermon delivered by Pastor Vincent Gutukunuwa, who urged Tawona to remain steadfast in his calling. “Ministry is not just a position; it is a responsibility and a privilege to serve God’s people,” Pastor Gutukunuwa said. “Go with courage, and always let the Word guide you.”
The service was a vibrant affair, with invited guests, church organizations, and individuals showering Tawona with gifts and words of encouragement. Among the testimonials, Ndapota Charirwe, Dora North Circuit Lay leader said, “Paul has been a pillar of strength in our circuit. His humility and dedication will be greatly missed, but we are excited to see him grow in this new role.”
Tawona expressed gratitude to the Dora North Circuit and the wider church community for their support throughout his journey. “I am deeply humbled by this opportunity to serve God in a greater capacity. Your prayers and encouragement have strengthened my resolve to answer His call,” he said.
The farewell service ended with joyful songs, a shared meal, and heartfelt goodbyes. As Paul Tawona embarks on this next chapter, he carries with him the blessings and love of a community that believes in his calling.
The United Methodist Church celebrates his journey as a reminder that God continues to call individuals to serve, transforming lives and communities through ministry.
